In May 2019, Seventy Five North, in conjunction with the City of Omaha, Omaha Housing Authority, and Brinshore Development, received a $25 million, 5-year, Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant.
Administered by HUD, this grant leverages public and private dollars to support locally-driven strategies to improve the well-being of former residents of Spencer Homes and the North 30th corridor.
The program is focused on three core goals:
1. Housing: Replace distressed public and assisted housing with high-quality mixed-income housing that is well-managed and responsive to the needs of the surrounding neighborhood.
2. People: Improve outcomes of households living in the target housing related to employment and income, health, and children’s education.
3. Neighborhood: Create the conditions necessary for public and private reinvestment in distressed neighborhoods to offer the kinds of amenities and assets, including safety, good schools, and commercial activity, that are important to families’ choices about their community.
CNI Program Overview BrochureOne of the primary objectives of the CNI Grant program is to replace distressed public housing with high-quality mixed-income options that are well-managed, responsive to the needs of the surrounding neighborhood, and prioritize choice for residents. The CNI Grant supports the delivery of 311 new units of mixed-income housing in the Highlander neighborhood and the North 30th Corridor.
